Is it harmful to your baby to use drink in cooking while pregnant? I have just seen a wonderful recipe for lamb shanks, but they use half a bottle of red wine in the recipe, it is cooked in the oven for over 2 hours, does that cook absent the drink? I would love to try this recipe, but not whether it is harmful for my baby!

even when you cook drink 100 of the drink isnt cooked off, its actually absorbed into your meal… I wouldnt risk it.
When you add drink to a dish, it can’t all burn off because drink and water, which are very fond of each other, form an azeotropic mixture.
Professor Man Crosby: this is a mixture that you receive when you have two different molecules that mix together that have a very high affinity for each other. And so they basically act as though they’re almost a unmarried compound. other words, the vapor that evaporates is a mixture of water and alcohol.

Eh, you’re good. Most of the drink will be burned off during cooking. It’s chiefly the flavor that’s desired for most recipes (aside from sure desserts).

Not one bit. Even whether the recipe required no cooking, the alcohol would be so diluted as to be inert. Cooking for 2 hours would net zero drink.

Most of the time while cooking with drink, the heat from the stove will cook out any intoxicating properties. So you should be ok, I wouldn’t advise cooking with it every night but some is fine, I should say.

Whether the recipe uses wine or beer, feel free to use it. Approximately 75-80 of the alcohol burns off and both of these are fairly low in drink content (do read the bottle - some wines are being made with higher alcohol content). Doctors have no issue with the tiny amount left over.
If you are using a tough liquor, such as rum or brandy, I would hold off on using the recipe. While 75-80 of the drink burns off, these have a much higher drink content and I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable with using it until after birth. Some, like whiskey, only burn off 60 of drink content during cooking, even long cooking. Don’t know why so much of it remains.

Not a trouble. Your good to go. All the drink will be 100 evaporated. I cook with it all the time. All that’s left behind is the flavor from the wine or what ever it was you were cooking with.
